Hello darkness, my old friend

...In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence...

- The Sound of Silence, Simon and Garfunkel

Amazing song! I absolutely adore these guys.

Hazara Singh Ramta

A truly exceptional Punjabi folk singer from Canada. My Dad had some of his songs and I must have first heard these when I was like 8 or 10 years old. And then suddenly a couple of weeks back I was surfing and looking for mp3's when I came across some of his songs again. And it was a refresher. The Punjabi was also not very difficult to understand, though some of the words were strange. Yeh, I am a Punjabi and yet don't speak the language very well..... But nevertheless his songs are more like experiences in prose and in a highly comical fashion. From what I have read about him, he had become very famous abroad in the early 1980's.

Well if you are a Punjabi and want to hear some of his songs, go to:

Music India Online

His very famous compositions are :
1. Jugni
2. Ramta Africa Wich - Ramta in Africa
3. Ramta Meman Wich - Ramta with Girls-Babes in America ;)

Anyways Happy Listening.....

Baby I Love Your Way

Oh.....I love this song, heard it after a long time on Rock Star INXS, where Mig Ayesa sang it with piano accompaniment. He was so good with it that Dave Navarro and rest of INXS were totally mesmerized. Anyways listen to this song at these places.

1. Original by Peter Frampton
2. By Mig Ayesa (Rock Star INXS)

Dust in the Wind

You must have seen the new ad for the Subaru B9 Tribeca SUV on TV. The car is moving on the streets of a city and vaporizing all the other cars on road. Well the song in the background caught my attention and I looked on the internet for it. It's a beautiful song by the rock band Kansas, an influential band of the 70's-80's era. Check out the lyrics and the actual song here.

Afsana likh rahi hoon

I had heard this song when I was very young. From the 1940 hit movie of Dard, this song gave the singer Uma Devi popularly known as Tun Tun, the impetus she needed in the film industry. This song dates back to before my Dad was also born. Apparently Tun Tun worked in 250 or more films and died in Nov. 2003. I have seen some of her films, and rate her as the best comedian ever on screen. The grace with which she carried herself in all her roles and her mischievous smile brought laughs to everyone from the young to old. A great actress indeed !
